TO BE or not to be!- In Urdu the verb 'to be' is irregular in most tenses. It doesn't reflect gender in the simple present tense but does in the simple past tense and in the future tense. In the past and future tenses shown below, the first form provided is that which corresponds to a feminine subject... meaning a woman or a girl has her say. In the second form, a man or a boy steps on his soap box and talks. Present: Mai hu Tu hai Yeh hai Voh hai Ham hai Tum ho Ap hai Ye hai Vo hai Past: (with feminine subject) Mai thi tu thi Yeh thi Voh thi Ham thi Tum thi Ap thi Ye thi Vo thi (with masculine subject) Mai tha Tu tha Yeh tha Voh tha Ham the Tum the Ap the Ye the Vo the Future: (feminine subject) Mai hougi Tu hogi Yeh hogi Voh hogi Ham hogi Tum hogi Ap hogi Ye hogi Ye hogi Vo hogi (masculine subject) Mai houga Tu hoga Yeh hoga Voh hoga Ham hoga Tum hoge Ap hoge Ye hoge Vo hoge - Edited by UNCLE AL on Mar 17, 2007 7:12 PM |
